Bear River High School Remediation
Program
PURPOSE
Bear River High School offers a remediation program in order
to provide an opportunity for students to recover credit for
core-required courses in an alternate setting.
POLICY
Students who fail a course in history, english,
math, or biology can register for a remediation session.
Classes in remediation will carry the same
course number as the original failed class.
Students will work through a PLATO computer
assisted program facilitated by a teacher certified or endorsed
in the content area.
Students must pass established testing
criteria at 80% to receive a passing grade of B. Anything
less will result in a failing grade.
Special accommodations will be given to
those students who have an active IEP according to those
written in the goals.
Students are allowed to repeat the remediation
class upon failure one time only. Fees paid for the first
attempt may not be applied to the second enrollment, but
must be paid again before the student is able to attend
the class.
Incompletes may be given if circumstances
require, ie; computer malfunction, prolonged illness. This
must be a decision made by the teacher facilitating the
class, along with an administrator. Additional fees will
not be charged if an incomplete is given and extra time
will be allowed for completion.
The sequential nature of math courses will
require a student remediate the failed level before being
allowed to enroll in the next level.
Intermediate algebra remediation students
may be allowed to attend two days a week or spend two trimesters
in order to finish the required modules. The student must
request that accommodation and will not be required to pay
an extra fee.
Students are encouraged to enroll for only
one subject in a given trimester.
PROCEDURE
Counselors will identify failing, or potentially
failing students at week 10 of each trimester.
Students and parents will be notified by
using two of the following three methods:
Letter
Phone call
E-mail
They will be given information regarding
the course necessary to remediate, and how and when to sign-up
for the session.
Sign-up deadline will be the end of the
first (1st) week of the trimester the session is held. *see
summer session exception
Fees are due no later than the Friday of
the first (1st) week of the trimester the session is held.
*see summer session exception

trimester and run 10 weeks.

after school on the following days:
Tuesday --- Math
Wednesday --- English
Thursday--- Biology and History
In order to run a class, there must be
10 students enrolled and fees paid.
Classes may be combined if fewer than 10
students are enrolled if administration deems it appropriate.
Remediation teachers must be certified
and/or endorsed for the curriculum they facilitate.
One teacher may facilitate more than one
course if sessions are combined.
Roll will be taken, parents notified, and
documentation submitted by a lab aide to administration.
